Warsaw City Breaks - Poland 2007

3 night city breaks in Warsaw from £235 per person including flights.

Founded over 800 years ago, Warsaw became a leading royal capital and by the 18th century, one of Eastern Europe's most important centres. The fortunes of the city changed dramatically during the Second World War, when it was heavily bombed. The Old Town is now almost brand new, although meticulous and sensitive restoration has recreated much of its medieval charm.

Today, the overriding impression is of a thriving capital surrounding a revived Old Town. Like other old European capitals, Warsaw is a city of elegant boutiques, excellent cafés and world-class museums. Poles and foreign visitors alike find plenty to keep themselves occupied. Any visit should include the Royal Castle, housing some of Eastern Europe's finest art, the magnificent Cathedral of St John and Wilanów Palace.

Regent recommends...wandering in the leafy oasis of the Saxon Gardens (free and open 24 hours), situated in the centre of Warsaw and modelled on the gardens of Versailles, filled with statues, fountains and mature trees. The gardens were opened in the 18th century as the city's first public park. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is also here; catch the changing of the guard on the hour.
