When I was last in Tbilisi, we visited the World of Wine store, near the Opera House and tasted some lovely vintage Georgian wine. Afterwards we enjoyed a traditional Georgian dinner at Zveli Sakhli restaurant.

Tbilisi
Allow plenty of time to discover this city of contrasts. Ramble through the Old Town with its profusion of houses rubbing shoulders, their balconies, draped in plants, almost touching over the narrow cobbled streets. Peer into tiny courtyards and admire the eclectic mix of orthodox churches, mosques and synagogues. Narikala Fortress sits above the Old Town. Get a good view of it from the botanical gardens below then head for elegant, wide, tree-shaded Rustaveli Avenue lined with shops, cafes and museums. Join the locals in a relaxing sulphur bath, indulge in a glass of Georgian wine and experience the culture in the Paliashvili Opera House.
When to go...
There are always different kinds of events in Tbilisi and the Caucasus Mountains from Georgian traditional festivities to jazz festivals and concerts. Tbilisoba (Day of Tbilisi) is the largest annual celebration in the city, commemorating the foundation of Tbilisi. It is held on the last weekend of October every year in and around Rike Square in Tbilisi. People from different regions of Georgia come to offer their products to guests. There are stalls packed with baskets full of red grapes and various fruits, you can also see carpets, hats, socks and scarves decorated with colourful ornaments, and handmade dolls.
