If you're looking for souvenirs to bring back from Armenia, I'd recommend bartering for hand-made jewellery, obsidian chess sets, carpets, abstract paintings etc at Vernissage in Yerevan - it's a huge weekend open-air flea market, centrally located on Pavstos Biuzand Boulevard - just follow the crowds!

A city break in Armenia provides an ample opportunity to get a real taste of this cosmopolitan and welcoming country. Set within spectacular Caucasian scenery, Armenia is characterised by a true blend of cultures and diverse historical flavour– most evident in its delightful capital, Yerevan.

The Armenian people, who are fast establishing a global reputation for their easygoing nature and warm hospitality, have put a turbulent past behind them to shape their capital into a buzzing and vital cultural centre that offers an unforgettable experience for any visitor.

When visiting Armenia, a city break in Yerevan will give you the chance to truly immerse yourself in the relaxed, Mediterranean-style café culture that typifies the capital and its inhabitants, while also providing enough time to stroll around the city with its unique mixture of Belle Époque, Art Deco and Soviet architecture, and numerous churches, art galleries, monuments and museums. Whether you’re an aficionado of the arts, history, architecture, food or drink, you will invariably find something here to keep you intrigued.

No Yerevan city break would be complete without a visit to one of Armenia's mountainside monasteries, such as the remarkable Monastery of Geghard – a Unesco World Heritage site - which lies within easy reach of the centre.
