A 9 day tour of Georgia, its
capital Tbilisi, cities and rural areas from £1325 per person
With its legendary hospitality, delicious food and abundance of local wines, Georgia is one of the most welcoming countries you will
ever visit. This itinerary is an absolute must for first-time visitors, as not only will you see diverse landscapes (including the majestic
mountain scenery of the Caucasus and the golden vineyards of the Kakheti region), but you will also journey up the Georgian Military
Highway as well as visiting Gori and its startlingly flattering museum devoted to its famous son – Stalin. On this tour you will have your
own private car with driver and English speaking guide and we also include many waist-expanding Georgian meals.
There are 3 flights a week on BMI to Tbilisi departing Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Suggested Itinerary
|
| Day 1 |
This evening depart London Heathrow to Tbilisi with
BMI. |
| Day 2 |
TBILISI
Arrive Tbilisi, transfer to Hotel Kali for overnight. After
a brief rest you will start with a full day tour of Tbilisi
including the State Museum of Georgia or Art Museum,
Ethnographical Museum, Narikala Fortress, Sioni,
Church of the Virgin, Mount Mtatsminda and the
sulphur baths. |
| Day 3 |
MTSKHETA AND GUDAURI
Excursion to Mtskheta and continuation on the
Georgian Military Highway to Gudauri. En route you
will visit Jvari Church, Svetitskhoveli, Samtavro and
Kazbegi. Overnight in Hotel Panorama. |
| Day 4 |
GUDAURI TO BAKURIANI VIA GORI
Drive to Gori, birthplace of Stalin and home to the
Joseph Stalin Museum. Included is a visit to the
cave town of Uplistsikhe and Ateni Sioni Church,
before reaching the ski resort village of Bakuriani.
Overnight in Hotel Apolon.

BAKURIANI TO KUTAISI VIA VARDZIA
From Bakuriani you head southwards towards the
Turkish border to Vardzia, a spectacular cave town built
into the Erusheli Mountain by Queen Tamar in 1185.
Final destination is Kutaisi, ancient capital of Colchis.
Overnight in guesthouse.

| Day 6 |
KUTAISI TO TBILISI OR SVANETI (see Svaneti add-on)
Morning excursion of Kutaisi's most famous sights
including Bagrati Temple and Gelati Monastery. Either
continue to Svaneti region or return to Tbilisi. En route
back to Tbilisi, you will visit Montsameta Monastery
and Ubisi Church. Arrive Tbilisi and transfer to Hotel
Kali for overnight.

| Day 7 |
TBILISI TO KAKHETI REGION
From Tbilisi you will visit David Gareja Monastery
complex and the Larva Monastery, located in the wild
savannah plains on the Georgia-Azeri border. The tour
can be extended by walking up to Udabno Monastery,
where the views and frescoes are outstanding.
Continue to Telavi, through the vineyards of Kakheti. Overnight in guesthouse. |

Day 8
|
KAKHETI REGION TO TBILISI
Today is spent exploring the Kakheti region including
Tsinandali, estate of the 19th century poet and
Kakhetian Prince Alexander Chavchavadze, also known
for its production of some fine wines. A stop is made at
Alaverdi Cathedral, Gremi complex and the Cathedral
of Ninotsminda. Return to Tbilisi and transfer to Hotel
Kali for overnight.

| Day 9 |
FLY TO THE UK
Free morning depending on time of flight, transfer to
airport for flight back to the UK. |
Sveneti Add-on |
If you want to complete your stay in Georgia, then consider a side-trip
to Svaneti, known for its rugged mountains, massive ancient
watchtowers and the Svans - proud mountain people. Svaneti
represents the heart of Georgian orthodox culture and traditions
and is a remote area. You will travel by 4WD over rugged terrain
and enjoy mountain treks and stunning vistas. Here, you will be
guests of local villages, staying in private homes and experiencing
Svaneti mountain life at its best.
This tour starts on day 6 and on day 9 you will rejoin the Classic
Georgia Tour in Tbilisi and continue the itinerary through the
Kakheti Region, ending the tour in Tbilisi on day 12.

| Day 6 |
KUTAISI TO MESTIA
Instead of continuing to Tbilisi, drive to Zugdidi, meet
with local guide and continue up the Enguri Gorge,
where the Svan ethnic group thrived, cut off from the
world by the high, inaccessible mountains. En route
visit Latali and Lenjeri basilicas built in the 8-9th
century. Arrive Mestia and overnight in private home |
| Day 7 |
MESTIA TO USHGULI
Spend the morning exploring Mestia visiting a watch
tower and the Historical-Ethnographic Museum with
its icons and manuscripts. Depart to Ushguli, located
2,200 metres above sea level, it is considered one of the
highest populated villages in Europe. Overnight in
private house in Ushguli. |
| Day 8 |
USHGULI TO MESTIA
Morning trek towards Mount Shkara, after lunch
return to Mestia and visit Laghami St. George’s
Church and a traditional Svan house. Overnight in
private house in Mestia. |
| Day 9 |
MESTIA TO TBILISI VIA ZUGDIDI
This long day takes you back to Tbilisi (changing
vehicles in Zugdidi). En route back to Tbilisi, if time
permits, you can visit Ubisi Church. Arrive Tbilisi and
transfer to Hotel Kali for overnight. (return Classic Georgia Tour at day 7) |
