Riga,
Sigulda and the Seaside
An 8 night break from £388
per person and £135 single supplement
Why not combine the delights of Riga with a break by the
Latvian sea-side and an escape into the beautiful Sigulda
National Park?
Riga is the largest and liveliest city in the Baltics.
It offers an eclectic mix of art nouveau and medieval charm
and a few great souvenirs from the Soviet past! There are
some fascinating museums and a huge choice of excellent
restaurants, cafés and clubs. Take the local train
from Riga to Jurmala.
The spa-town of Jurmala, which means sea-side, is situated
just over 20 kilometres from Riga. Jurmala is famous for
sandy beaches, its medicinal mud and mineral water treatments
and beautiful wooden villas. The beach is more than 30 km
long. Jurmala is a group of neighbourhoods stretching along
the Baltic Sea, with Majori as the most important centre.
Sigulda, often referred to as "the Switzerland of
Latvia", is located 53km away from Riga, in the picturesque
valley of the Gauja River. Hilly river banks, sandstone
caves, ruins of the medieval castles make this area an interesting
and relaxing place to visit. See the bobsleigh run on edge
of town, where the Latvian Olympic bobsleigh team train.
Also visit Cesis, an attractive medieval town, not far from
Sigulda.
