Mongolia is a huge land
locked country of mountains, steppes and desert which
boasts a wealth of unspoilt and diverse natural beauty.
Over 800 years ago, under
the leadership of Genghis Khan, the people of this
land established the largest empire the world has
ever known. Today, after years of Chinese and Russian
domination, Mongolia is once again a free, independent
state, and visitors can witness the resurgence of
the traditional nomadic lifestyle and the Buddhist
faith alongside Mongolia's steady modernisation.
Many of our clients
visit Mongolia as a stop on the journey between Moscow
and Beijing on the Trans-Mongolian railway. However,
increasing numbers of visitors are now exploring Mongolia
as their main destination, allowing more time to explore
the remote parts of the country. Some of the highlights
of a visit to Mongolia include the former capital
of Genghis Khan, the Gobi desert and the great Buddhist
monasteries of Erdene Zuu and Gandan. You can walk
or ride (on horse or camel) through the uniquely unspoilt
natural environment and visit nomadic communities.
If you have more time we would recommend visiting
the beautiful lake area in the far north and west
of the country.
