New for 2015, is a 14 day journey through Albania, Northern Greece and Macedonia. This extensive tour will take you back in time as you visit the most important historical sites in the region. From ancient classical sites, to attractive Byzantine churches (with their impressive frescoes), elegant mosques and vibrant bazaars, contrast and compare the modern world with bygone eras of the Eastern Mediterranean. Stunning coastal scenery, rugged mountain passes and the tranquil waters of Lake Ohrid provide magnificent back-drops to complete your historical journey.

Fly to Tirana and transfer to the UNESCO town of Berat for a two night stay. (D)

BERAT
A guided tour of Berat will take you to the lower quarters and the upper fortress, passing Byzantine churches, mosques and buildings which date back to the Ottoman Empire. (B,L)
DAY 3
BERAT TO SARANDA
BERAT TO SARANDA
Depart for the ancient city of Apollonia and tour the archaeological ruins. Continue to Vlore, visit the central square and the Muradie Mosque. Venture further south to Saranda for two night stay, passing through Llogara National Park. Stop en route at the medieval fortress of Ali Pasha and the submarine base of Porto Palermo. (B,L)
DAY 4
SARANDA TO BUTRINT
SARANDA TO BUTRINT
Spend this morning at leisure in Saranda, one of Albania’s most beautiful towns. In the afternoon, visit the nearby UNESCO heritage site of Butrint. Return to Saranda via Butrint Lake. (B,D)
DAY 5
SARANDA TO GJIROKASTRA
SARANDA TO GJIROKASTRA
This morning visit the UNESCO town of Gjirokastra. Stop en route at the Monastery of Mosopotam and the Blue Eye Spring. Continue to Gjirokastra for overnight stay. (B,L)
DAY 6
GJIROKASTRA TO KALAMBAKA
GJIROKASTRA TO KALAMBAKA
Head off today towards the Greek border to the historical town of Ioannina. First stop is Ali Pasha’s castle, Greece’s oldest Byzantine castle. Take a boat ride to an island on Lake Pamvotida, to visit the Ali Pasha Museum and Bazaar. Return to the mainland for overnight stay at Kalambaka. (B,L)

Explore the two UNESCO heritage sites of Meteora and Vergina. Continue to Thessaloniki, for overnight stay. (B,L)
DAY 8

Enjoy a full day tour discovering Greece’s second largest city. Included is a visit to the Museum of Byzantine Culture and Ethnographic Museum. (B,L)

Head off today towards Skopje. First stop is the archaeological site of Pella, followed by the archaeological site of Heraclea near Bitola. Continue to Skopje for overnight stay, with a stop for some wine sampling en route. (B,L)

SKOPJE TO OHRID
SKOPJE TO OHRID
Explore the city of Skopje including the Stone Bridge, Old Town and Kale Fortress walls. Continue to Ohrid for a two night stay, stopping en route at the coloured mosque of Tetovo. (B,L)

Visit the 16thcentury Monastery of St Naum, located on the southeast side of the lake. Return to Ohrid for a tour of the city and handicrafts Bazaar. (B,L)
DAY 12

OHRID TO TIRANA
Head off towards Tirana and visit Lin peninsula and village with its impressive Byzantine Basilica containing mosaics which date back to the 7th-6th centuries. Continue to Selca, to view the ruins of 2,400 tombs. Final stop before Tirana will be Elbasan with its well-preserved Ottoman style Ethnographic Museum. Continue to Tirana for two night stay. (B,L)
DAY 13

A morning tour of Albania’s capital city will include Skanderbeg Square, the National History Museum, National Art Gallery and Et’Hem Beg Mosque. Later, explore the lesser known suburbs of Tirana, visiting the British and American war graves and the National Martyrs Cemetery of Albania. (B,L)
DAY 14
TIRANA TO UK
Drive towards the medieval city of Kruja to visit its fortress, old restored Bazaar and museums. Transfer to the airport for return flight to the UK. (B)
