DAY 2

BELGRADE TO ARILJE
This morning enjoy a city tour of Belgrade with stops at the Parliament, St. Sava Orthodox Cathedral, Kalemegdan Fortress and Knez Mihajlova Street. In the afternoon head out to the pastoral country side and to the raspberry capital of Serbia—Arilje. Indeed Serbia is reputed to grow a third of the word’s raspberries. Here visit the cathedral of Saint Achilles Church with its medieval frescos. Enjoy a large traditional late lunch in the a farmhouse and taste the famous raspberry cake. Overnight in Arilje. (B,L)

Continue on to the famous Studenica Monastery Complex, the largest and richest Orthodox monastery in Serbia. Situated in the beautiful Studenica River Valley, the complex’s Holy Virgin Church, Kings Church, St. Nicholas Church and Treasury are a tour highlight. Novi Pazar is the cultural centre of the Raška/Sandžak region and has a large Muslim population. Some idyllic Orthodox sights are in the environs as this was the heartland of the Serbian medieval state. Visit Peter and Paul’s Church, located from three kilometres from Novi Pazar—this small stone church was founded in the 4th century and is the oldest intact church in Serbia. (B,D)

NOVI PAZAR TO KOLASIN

Today cross over the mountain ranges between Serbia and Montenegro via Rozaje. Enjoy a delicious organic brunch served with medicinal herb tea. Arrive at what is undoubtedly the jewel of Montenegro’s crown - Biogradska Gora National Park. Containing one of the last three remaining virgin forests in Europe, this beautiful national park is dotted with glacial lakes. Here, spend time walking around the largest lake – Biogradsko. Afterwards check in to a hotel located in the mountain resort of Kolasin. (B,D)

KOLASIN TO KOTOR
This morning drive towards the Adriatic Coast and to Cetinje, Montenegro’s old royal capital from the 15th century until 1946. Here, visit King Nicola’s Museum, housed in the former royal palace, and discover the religious treasures of Cetinje Monastery. Enjoy a delicious tasting of smoked ham and cheese smoked in Njegusi village en-route to Kotor. In the afternoon check in to the hotel in Kotor and enjoy a delicious fish dinner (other dietary options available). (B,D)

KOTOR BAY
KOTOR BAY
With its fjord-like scenery and soaring mountains which drop down to the water’s edge, the Bay of Kotor is truly idyllic . Start with a walking tour of Kotor’s walled Old Town, stopping at the Square of Arms and St Tryphon’s Cathedral. Continue on to Perast, a small Baroque town on the Bay. From here, take a boat excursion to the island of Our Lady of the Rocks, a tiny outpost whose only building is a Roman Catholic church. (B,D)

KOTOR TO DURMITOR NATIONAL PARK

This morning head back to Serbia via the extraordinary Ostrog Monastery. The drive up is an exhilarating experience and the views once at the top are stunning. The monastery itself was built in the 17th Century by one of the four Montenegrin Saints, St. Vasilije and today is a popular pilgrimage site for followers of the Orthodox religion. End the day immersed in the beautiful surroundings of Durmitor National Park where 48 of the mountain peaks rise to over 2000m. (B,D)

DURMITOR NATIONAL PARK TO ZLATAR
DURMITOR NATIONAL PARK TO ZLATAR
Embark on a walk this morning around the sparkling Black Lake of Durmitor National Park. The lake is the central focal point of Durmitor and looks beautiful reflecting in the changing seasonal light and can vary quite vastly in colour because of its varying degrees of depth. Visit Hussein Pasa Mosque in Pljevlja, built in between 1573 and 1594. It has the highest minaret in the Balkans and is regarded as one of the most beautiful monuments of Islamic architecture in Montenegro. The mosque was made of finely cut stone with rich interior ornaments and the walls have been painted with floral details and quotes from Koran. Spend two nights in Zlatar. (B,D)
DAY 9
ZLATAR LAKE TO ZLATIBOR
ZLATAR LAKE TO ZLATIBOR
This morning take a leisurely boat ride along Zlatar Lake and the Uvac River. Take a peak into the habitat of the majestic Griffon Vulture at the Uvac Special Nature Reserve before sampling the famous regional cheese and lunch accompanied by a brass band performance. (B,L,D)

ZLATIBOR REGION
ZLATIBOR REGION
One of the tour highlights is a ride on the narrow-gauge Sargan 8 railway, so named as it follows a figure of eight route which manages to incorporate a number of switchbacks, tunnels and bridges, all within a few kilometres of track. Afterwards visit the Sirogojno Open Air Museum which aims to depict a traditional 19th Century Zlatibor village. Enjoy a traditional lunch with locally crafted wooden spoons before taking the opportunity to purchase the woolen textiles that the region is famous for producing and which it now exports around the world. Return to Zlatibor for overnight stay. (B,L,D)
DAY 11
ZLATIBOR TO BELGRADE
ZLATIBOR TO BELGRADE
You will head back to Belgrade this morning, stopping en-route at Terzica Avlija Ethno park. The park features many traditional Serbian buildings and aims to educate visitors on long-established Serbian ways of life. Watch a live pottery demonstration before enjoying wine-tasting with lunch. Return to Belgrade for a farewell dinner this evening. (B,D)

BELGRADE TO UK
You will have the morning free in Belgrade today before the transfer to the airport. (B)
