Explore the islands of Pico and Sao Miguel on this 8-day self catering fly-drive holiday. Beginning with 4 nights in a traditional Azorean stone house on Pico, enjoy the freedom to explore the island at your own leisure with a car, enjoying awe-inspiring scenery along the way. Climb Mount Pico, walk numerous nature trails and opt for a whale and dolphin watching excursion. Take a short flight to Sao Miguel and enjoy 3 nights in a poolside villa near the stunning Furnas Lake, visit the natural wonder of Sete Cidades and explore the historic town of Ponta Delgada with its cobbled streets and pretty harbour.

This morning, grab the camera and enjoy a day of island driving and awe-inspiring photo stops. Begin with a drive through the north coast of Pico towards Cachorro and Lajido. Continue on to San Roque and visit the Whale Factory and the natural swimming pools. Drive along the mountain road towards the lake of Capitão, which sits at an altitude of 900 metres. Make a stop at Lajes to visit the Whalers Museum before heading south to Mistérios de São João to admire the volcanic landscape.
After breakfast, why not head out to the open seas to embark on a whale watching adventure? Drive to the Espaco Talassa to meet the guide, Serge Viallelle who created the first observation and study base of sea life in the Azores in 1991. Serge has spent his life studying the communities of whales and dolphins that frequent the mid-Atlantic waters and guarantees a 98% success rate of seeing sea mammals on this trip.
This afternoon, relax in the gardens of the stone cottage or visit one of the many picturesque coves that line Pico.
This morning, follow one of the numerous walking trials on Pico and marvel at lush green landscapes, miles of vineyards, forests and mountainous and lava fields. Look out to sea from viewpoints or at neighbouring Sao Jorge.
For those feeling more energetic can climb to the peak of Mount Pico, before heading underground to visit Gruta das Torres, one of the longest lava tubes in the world.
After breakfast, drive to the airport and check in for the short flight to Sao Miguel. Collect car on arrival and drive to the Furnas Lake Villas.
Spend the day exploring Sao Miguel. Explore the historic capital, Ponta Delgada. Visit the three arched city gates and stroll around the Praça Gonçalo Velho square with it's array of cafe's and coffee shops, embark on a horse-drawn carriage ride or take the Lagarta Tourist Train that travels along the city's cobbled streets. Drive to the valley of Sete Cidades, one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal. The valley showcases the green and blue lakes which according to legend, were formed from the tears of a shepherd and a princess who shared a forbidden love.
After breakfast take a drive into the mountains, making a stop at the view point at Caloura. Continue on to Vila Franca which was the island's very first capital in the fifteenth century. Admire the historical architecture before travelling to the beautiful Furnas valley, where a visit to the lake with it's volcanic hot springs are awe inspiring. Enjoy an Azorean lunch, cooked from the ground's natural hot vapours, before an afternoon visit to the botanical gardens. Swim in a natural hot water pool before heading north for a tour of a tea plantation with plenty of photo stops en route.
This morning, drive to the airport for the flight to the UK.
