The village of Al Ashkharah is named after a poisonous desert plant and is a popular place with fishermen. It is famous for catching big fish from the shore. It's also where the spectacular coastal road - Highway 17, also called the Dunes Road - takes you from Al Ashkharah to Shana'a. Be aware that the tides around this part of the coast are very rough, so care needs to be taken when going into the water.
