The Solomon Islands are a Melanesian paradise offering a truly authentic Pacific island experience, and comprises of six main islands and over nine hundred minor islands dotted through the South Pacific Ocean. Largely unexplored, this smattering of idyllic islands is home to a rich bounty of heritage with sea-faring community traditions preserved for generations and a vibrant world of heaving coral reef ecosystems just beneath the waves.

Discover traditional tribes and unique cultures, rugged scenery and pristine marine environments peppered with colourful reefs perfect for diving and snorkelling. Visit World War II sites to uncover rusting relics untouched for years and step back in time while exploring remote island communities where the only sound is the waves crashing on the shore.

Located just to the east of Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands are the perfect addition to any Papua New Guinea holiday for travellers looking to extend their trip, spend a few days relaxing on pristine beaches, or who wish to spend time getting to know another culture which rarely receives visits from westerners.

The Solomon Islands are the perfect place for the eco-traveller looking to escape the crowds and really get away from it all. Aside from the beautiful sandy beaches a trip to the Solomons is fascinating for those interested in history – Guadalcanal was one of the major battles during World War 2 in the Pacific campaign between US and Japanese forces. Divers can find wrecks dotted around the shoreline, and there are a number of military installations which remain from the 1940s to intrigue even amateur historians.

Stef's Tips
1
Go diving! Honiara’s coast is home to a number of wrecks from World War 2 that can be easily reached even by amateur divers.
2
Visit Marovo Lagoon – a double-barrier-enclosed lagoon surrounded by coconut palms, rainforests and corals.
3
Take a 2-day hike take to the rim of Kolomobangara, a cone-shaped volcano, standing at 1,770 metres on Ghizo Island.
