Hagi Master Potter Private Experience

Hagi has been at the heart of Japanese pottery for more than 400 years, with its distinctive ceramics originally created for the tea ceremony and still regarded as some of Japan's finest today. This exclusive experience offers a rare opportunity to visit Hagi's oldest pottery kiln, which has remained in the hands of the same family for over four centuries. Meet the 14th-generation master potter and gain an insight into the history, techniques and traditions that have been carefully preserved and passed down through each generation.

Explore the workshop, see the historic climbing kiln that is still in use today, and view significant works created by generations of the family, from the founder to the present day. You'll even have the chance to step inside the kiln itself, offering a perspective that few visitors experience. The visit concludes with a traditional matcha tea experience in a peaceful tea room overlooking a Japanese garden, with tea served in handcrafted Hagi ware. If something catches your eye, you'll also have the opportunity to purchase ceramics directly from the kiln, including pieces made by the current master potter. It is a genuinely special opportunity to experience one of Japan's oldest pottery traditions through the family who continue to keep it alive.
