The Pottery House Private Course

Begin your journey by meeting the guide and tuk-tuk driver at your hotel for a quick transfer to the royal boat pier behind the National Museum. A brief 5-minute cruise across the Mekong River will take you to the tranquil village of Ban Chan, renowned for its clay pottery. Historically chosen by ancient Lao kings for its skilled artisans, Ban Chan was once a hub of pottery-making, a tradition that is now fading.

Upon arrival, you’ll meet the Lamphet Family, who, in collaboration with the Luang Prabang Tourism Department, have established a Pottery House dedicated to preserving this traditional craft. Through their efforts, you’ll not only learn about the rich cultural history of Ban Chan but also actively contribute to keeping this unique art alive. Your experience begins with a behind-the-scenes look at ancient pottery techniques, followed by a hands-on opportunity to work with clay under the guidance of skilled local artisans. This immersive activity offers an authentic glimpse into Lao culture.

After your pottery session, enjoy a traditional Lao lunch prepared by the Lamphet family, with ingredients sourced locally and, when in season, from their own organic garden. Savour Luang Prabang specialities such as khaiphaen (fried river weed), grilled fish, eggplant dipping sauce, and spicy papaya salad. As your visit concludes, say your goodbyes to your gracious hosts and return to Luang Prabang by boat, with a transfer back to your hotel by early afternoon.
