Echoes of the Past, Footsteps of Heroes

Saigon was the scene of key military events that shaped the war during the 1960s and 1970s. This in-depth half-day experience offers insight into local revolutionaries and how they maintained a secret network across the city by visiting their secret hideouts. You’ll also visit the Independence Palace to see the ‘war room’ and the monument of Thich Quang Duc, the Buddhist monk who immortalised himself, photographed by Malcome Brown in 1963.

Begin at 08:30 from your hotel, then head to a significant shophouse restaurant from the Vietnam War era. Pass by a shrine near the US Consulate and visit the Central Post Office to see the former CIA building, the site of the 1975 helicopter evacuation. Learn about the "Fall of Saigon" photo by Hubert van Ess. Visit the Reunification Palace, where the end of the war was symbolised by tanks crashing through its gates.

Explore the palace's war rooms and opulent lifestyle displays. Continue to the memorial of Thich Quang Duc, a protesting monk, and end the tour at a former Viet Cong hideout turned museum with hidden tunnels. Learn about its history, including the Tet Offensive attack in 1968. Finally, the jeep will return you to your hotel or next destination.
