Yokokawa Onsen Motoyu Yamadaya is a small traditional ryokan surrounded by the peaceful satoyama countryside of northern Ibaraki. Its Japanese-style tatami rooms overlook a mountain stream and the surrounding wooded hills, creating a quiet rural base within easy reach of Fukuroda Falls, Ryujin Suspension Bridge and Hanazono Gorge. The ryokan’s hot spring, discovered in 1753, is an alkaline sulphur spring traditionally known as a ‘Bijin no Yu’, or ‘hot spring for beautiful skin’, for the smooth feeling it leaves after bathing. Guests can enjoy both indoor and open-air baths overlooking the stream and a small waterfall. Meals make use of local and seasonal ingredients, including mountain trout, ayu, maitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, konjac and Ibaraki’s Rose Pork, offering a taste of the surrounding region alongside the traditional onsen experience.
