Set within the walls of Sighișoara’s UNESCO-listed Medieval Citadel, Fronius Boutique Residence is an atmospheric historic property in an exceptional location. The building was once owned by the Fronius family and is one of the few houses to have survived the Great Fire of 1676. Carefully restored to preserve its original character, the residence combines centuries-old architecture, antique furnishings and local craftsmanship with the comforts of a small boutique hotel.
With just 11 individually decorated rooms, Fronius has an intimate and distinctly historic feel. Antique wooden furniture, vaulted ceilings, exposed stone and traditional details give each room its own character, complemented by modern comforts including en-suite bathrooms, Wi-Fi, TV and minibar.
Breakfast is served each morning at the residence, while a small bar offers drinks throughout the day. In warmer weather, guests can relax on the outdoor terrace. Sighișoara’s citadel also has a good choice of restaurants and cafés within easy walking distance.
The location is one of Fronius Residence’s greatest attractions. Step outside and you are immediately among the cobbled lanes, colourful medieval houses and defensive towers of Sighișoara’s historic citadel. The landmark Clock Tower, Covered Stairway and Church on the Hill are all within a short walk, making it easy to explore once the daytime visitors have departed.
For us, this is exactly the sort of place that adds something special to a Romania itinerary. Rather than simply visiting Sighișoara, you get to stay right inside its medieval citadel in a building with centuries of history. With only 11 rooms, plenty of original character and the old town on the doorstep, it feels wonderfully appropriate for an overnight stay here.
