According to legend, the Bayterek represents the Tree of Life, where the holy bird of happiness, Samruk, lays a golden egg in its nest atop the tower, symbolising the sun and granting life and hope. However, beneath the tower lurks Aydakhar, a wicked dragon seeking to devour the egg, symbolising the eternal struggle between good and evil in Kazakh mythology. Depart Astana in the morning for Burabai National Park, commonly known as Borovoe, to see the region's natural splendour. Borovoe is one of Central Asia's most attractive mountain resorts, including 14 major lakes and countless smaller ones. Enjoy leisurely hikes through towering fir trees and distinctive rock formations, each with its own name and personality. A hike to Bolektau Mountain provides panoramic views of the National Park's stunning scenery. After a day of exploring, return to Astana. (B)
In the morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Almaty. Upon arrival, a local guide and driver will meet you and take you to Almaty City. Following an independent lunch, the trip continues with a visit to the Green Bazaar (closed on Mondays), which has a lively atmosphere and a diverse selection of local items. Then take a leisurely stroll to Panfilov Park to see the renowned Zenkov Cathedral, one of the world's most unusual wooden structures. Visit the Memorial of Glory and Eternal Flame, as well as the Museum of National Musical Instruments (closed on Mondays). The journey culminates with a visit to Kok Tobe Hill, which houses the 372-meter-tall TV Tower. Meet your guide and transfer to Medeo Dam, which protects the city from mudslides from the western Tien Shan. At 7:30 a.m., we'll drive 280km to the lovely lakes of Kolsai, one of Kazakhstan's most beautiful spots. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit the lovely Lake Kaindy. This lake, which has a depth of 30 metres, is situated 2000 metres above sea level in the Kung Alatau mountains, part of the Tien-Shan range. Lake Kaindy is well-known for its gorgeous underwater forest, where the tops of spruce trees peek above the water's surface, creating a stunning vista. Take a leisurely stroll around the lake to thoroughly appreciate its natural beauty before returning to Saty village. (B,L,D)
Following breakfast at the hotel, the day begins with a visit to Kolsai Lake, one of Kazakhstan's most beautiful natural beauties. The Kolsai lakes, located at elevations of 1800, 2250, and 2700 metres above sea level, form a unique mountain watershed with three separate natural zones and a diverse range of unusual flora and animals. After taking in the splendour of the lake, the drive continues to the stunning Charyn Canyon. The Red Canyon is roughly 3 km long, with widths ranging from 20 to 130 metres and depths of up to 100 metres. Despite its smaller size, this spectacular natural creation is reminiscent of the Grand Canyon in the United States. Continue your drive to Almaty where you'll spend the night. (B,L)
