Spend two nights in Ilulissat and experience the midnight sun on this short break to West Greenland. Take either a boat trip or amazing helicopter trip to the UNESCO designated Ilulissat Ice Fjord, which is filled with gigantic icebergs produced by one of the most productive glaciers in the world. With ear-splitting roars they are constantly calving, making giant waves as they crash into the sea.
Fly from downtown Reykjavik to the western Greenlandic town of Ilulissat. Upon arrival you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel which will be the base for the next 4 nights. Have a walk with your guide around the city before enjoying a welcome dinner. (D)
Travel by bus as far as the road goes and then enjoy a guided walk along the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ilulissat Ice Fjord to Sermermiut where you will be able to see the traces of ancient Inuit settlements. Sermermiut is a valley next to the ice fjord where inland you will see beautiful Arctic flowers and out to sea magnificent icebergs. The trip will take about 3 hours. (B,D)
Spend the day under your own steam (or arrange another excursion —just ask your Regent Specialist) before heading out on to the ice fjord for a stunning sun set cruise. The gigantic icebergs take on a whole different complexion when reflecting in the warm red colours of the setting sun. Cruise between the icebergs and enjoy a late drink whilst marvelling at this incredible view. You will be accompanied by a guide and light refreshments are included. (B,D)
After breakfast and a final coffee with your guide, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Reykjavik. (B)
