Hue is a historic city in central Vietnam sitting on the banks of the Perfume River. The city was unlucky enough to suffer a lot of damage under French occupation, further exacerbated by the Tet offensive during the 1960’s, but there are still a lot of interesting historical sights to explore. Hue is fairly manageable to negotiate on foot so sights such as the Citadel, the flag tower and Palace of Supreme Harmony are all easily accessible, but the city also has a host of out-of-town destinations which are worth visiting. These include the well preserved tombs such as that of Emperor Tu Duc, Minh Mang and the impressive seven-storeyed Thien Mu Pagoda.
