Faroe Islands Fly-Drive Adventure

Arrive at Vágar Airport, collect your hire car and begin your Faroe Islands adventure. Drive east through the islands and continue via the Sandoy Tunnel to the peaceful island of Sandoy. Make your way to Skálavík, a small village surrounded by rolling green hills on the island's eastern coast. The remainder of the day is free to settle in and explore your surroundings.

Overnight in Skálavík.

Join local guide Bjarki Henriksen and his family for a scenic hike to Líðargjógv, a 50m-deep cave above a dramatic gorge on Sandoy. The family are part-owners of the land and know this wild corner of the island intimately. As you enter the cave, experience the changes in temperature, sound and light, and, conditions permitting, venture through to the other side of the gorge. Along the two-hour hike, look out for fossils and ancient tree imprints, with views towards the southern bird cliffs and Dúgvuskotið cave.

Afterwards, explore Sandoy at your own pace. Photograph the turf house by Norðara Helsavatn, visit Sandur Village Museum for a glimpse of 19th-century island life, or drive south to the tiny village of Dalur. (B) 

Overnight in Skálavík.

Spend the morning exploring more of Sandoy at your own pace. An optional kayaking excursion on Lake Sandsvatn can be pre-booked, offering a peaceful way to experience the island's scenery from the water.

Later, drive through the Sandoy Tunnel and continue to Tórshavn, the compact Faroese capital. Spend the remainder of the day exploring its colourful harbour, cafés and atmospheric old quarter. (B)

Overnight in Tórshavn.

Enjoy a guided mountain bike tour from Tórshavn, cycling from the city centre past the beach and along trails through the capital's south-western outskirts. This active adventure offers a different perspective on Tórshavn and the surrounding Faroese landscape.

The remainder of the day is free. Explore Tinganes and the turf-roofed houses of the old town, visit the Nordic House or simply enjoy the cafés and restaurants around the harbour. (B)

Overnight in Tórshavn.

Today, drive to Hoyvík for an adrenaline-filled zip line adventure. Enjoy the thrill of flying over breathtaking coastal scenery, offering unforgettable vistas of cliffs and ocean. Afterwards, leave Tórshavn and drive north towards Klaksvík.

Make a day of the journey with detours to some of the Faroes' most picturesque villages. Depending on how much time you have, visit Saksun, Tjørnuvík or Gjógv before continuing through the spectacular sub-sea tunnel network to Klaksvík. (B)

Spend the morning exploring Klaksvík before this evening's guided adventure to neighbouring Kalsoy. Meet your local guide at the ferry harbour and cross to the island before heading towards the famous Kallur Lighthouse, spectacularly positioned above the North Atlantic.

Continue to Mikladalur to see the Kópakonan – Seal Woman – statue and hear the legend behind it. Finish with a light Faroese food platter, including local Mikladalur cheese and white wine, before returning to the ferry for Klaksvík. (B)

Drive back across the islands to Vágar for one final adventure. Take to the water for a boat trip towards Drangarnir, the extraordinary sea stacks and natural arch rising from the Atlantic between Vágar and Tindhólmur.

Go ashore for a short hike across the grass-covered slopes, where uninterrupted views reveal one of the Faroe Islands' most recognisable landscapes. Your captain will show you some of the best viewpoints for photographs before returning by boat. (B)

After breakfast, make the short drive to Vágar Airport, return your hire car and check in for your flight back to the UK. (B)
