Tour Itinerary

View to Tindholmur Islet and Mykines Island

Upon arrival into Vágar airport collect the hire car and a map and set off on your exciting Faroe Islands adventure. First, explore the island of Vágar with recommended visits to the villages of Sørvágur and Bøur, before driving to Gasadalar, which offers a panoramic view over the island of Mykines and Tindhólmur Islet.

Overnight in Sørvagur at Hotel Vágar or similar

Mykinesholmur Lighthouse

Today, perhaps take the ferry to Mykines, the westermost of the 18 islands and teeming with bird life. Be sure to hike to Mykineshólmur, a challenging but rewarding route to a scenic lighthouse. Mykines is extremely busy during the summer months, so we advise pre-booking the trip as an excursion which includes ferry crossing & guide while there- full day trip from £240 per person.(B)

Overnight at Hotel Vagar or similar

*There is a conservation fee to visit Mykines which can be paid through the tourist board website and it is recommended to book a guide.

Vestmanna Bird Cliffs, Faroe Islands

Today, drive to Streymoy where we recommend joining an optional excursion to the famous Vestmanna Bird Cliffs, home to the breeding grounds of puffins, guillemots and razorbills. Opt for a stop in Kvívík so see the historic Viking settlements and also stop in Eidi to see the Giant and the Witch rock formations. Drive passed the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slaettaratindur (882m), where those willing to put in the effort of the 6 km hike to summit will be reward with spectacular panoramic views. End the day in the small village of Gjógv. (B)

Overnight in Gjógv at Gjaargardur Guesthouse or similar

Tjornuvik beach, the Faroe Islands

In the morning, drive towards the tiny village of Tjørnuvík, nestled at the end of a deep fjord which slices into the northern Streymoy shore. Hear the roar of the sea combined with the rushing waterfalls that descend behind the village whilst visiting a Viking burial site. On the way back to Gjógv stop in Saksun, a beautiful village surrounded by high mountains. (B)

Overnight at Gjaargardur Guesthouse or similar

Aerial view of Klasvik Town, Bordoy Island

En-route to Klaksvík visit the village of Oyndarfjørdur and see the peculiar rinkusteinar (rocking stones). These two large rocks lie about 100m off the shore and rock back and forth with the slightest wave. Continue to the island of Bordoy through the sub-sea tunnel, which is decorated with lights by the famous Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson. End the day in the town of  Klaksvík. (B)

Overnight at Hotel Klaksvík or similar

Stunning vistas in the Faroe Islands

Drive to Tórshavn and catch the ferry to Suduroy, the southernmost island in the archipelago. This two hour ferry journey has multiple daily departures and is an experience in its own right. Enjoy the journey and take in the spectacular views while passing by several other Faroese islands. In Suduroy, enjoy magnificent green mountainsides, colourful villages and steep bird cliffs. Visit the village of Akraberg, home to a historic lighthouse, as well as Beinisvørd, a 470 meter high sea cliff, making it one of the highest in all of Europe.  (B)
