Travel through Iceland and witness the highlights of this unique country during our Iceland Complete guided tour.

Enjoy a morning tour of Reykjavík before heading through Hveragerði village. Continue to the Golden Circle and unearth Gullfoss, the ‘Golden Falls’, and the nearby Geysir hot spring area to see the famous Strokkur geyser. Journey along the south shore and stop to admire the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss before continuing to Dyrhólaey nature reserve. Overnight in Vík area. (B,D*)

Cross Eldhraun, the largest mass of lava ever to flow on earth, before reaching Kirkjuaejarklaustur. Continue over Skeiðarársandur sands to Skaftafell, a beautiful glacial area within Vatnajökull National Park, then continue to Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon – a birthplace of icebergs. Throughout the day, enjoy magnificent views of the mighty Vatnajökull Glacier. In the evening, reach the town of Höfn, also famous for its excellent ‘langoustines’ (Norway lobsters), and opt for an optional dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Höfn area. (B)

Drive from Höfn through Almannaskard pass, stopping en route to admire the majestic coastline. Continue to the magnificent East Fjord mountains passing through coastal fjord villages. Overnight in Egilsstaðir area. (B,D*)

Explore the highland plateau Modrudalsoaefi and, en route to Lake Mývatn, stop at Dettifoss. Visit Námaskarð pass with its boiling mud pools and vibrant colours. Discover the natural beauty of the Lake Mývatn area, including the pseudo craters at Skutustadir and Laxa Salmon River. Overnight in Mývatn area. (B,D*)

After breakfast, explore the peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Travel to Akureyri, making a stop at the magnificent Goðafoss Waterfall and the old turf farm, Laufás. Reach Akureyri and walk through the colourful northern ’capital’ of Iceland before continuing along the coastal road of Eyjafjörður towards the town of Siglufjörður. Overnight in Siglufjörður. (B,D*)

In the morning, visit Siglufjörður‘s Herring Museum and learn more about when Siglufjörður was transformed into a herring boom town, thanks to a large migration of herring. Continue to Skagafjordur, home of the unique Icelandic horse, towards the village of Blonduos on the river Blanda. Cross Holtavorduheidi plateau through Borgarfjörður to the town of Borgarnes. Today continue to Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in the world. Stop at the Hraunfossar Waterfalls before continuing to Lake Thingvallavatn and Thingvellir National Park, the ancient site of the world’s first outdoor parliament. Overnight in Reykjavík. (B)
Enjoy a visit and a bathe in the famous Blue Lagoon. Transfer to airport for the flight back to UK. (B)

Our Icelandic guide was excellent, telling us everything from history, geology, natural features and animals. The best we have ever had in 60 years of extensive travel. The local driver was also excellent - driving carefully, being totally helpful with luggage and helping less physically able people on and off the coach.
