Joined by like-minded travellers and led by professional, local guides, this small group tour is the perfect introduction to one of the most intoxicating and enchanting countries in the Middle East.
Jordan has been spoilt, as its home to a wide range of staggeringly beautiful landscapes, from the ochre-red sands of Wadi Rum, to the glistening and incredibly salty Dead Sea. This small Kingdom is eager to share its deep roots in the region's ancient history; walk down the siq to discover the ancient Nabatean civilisation of Petra, or climb to the top of the Roman amphitheatres at Jerash.
Discover more than just the well-known highlights on this group tour, and visit one of Jordan's protected reserves, Ajloun Nature Reserve, by exploring rolling hills dotted with oak and pistachio trees, before continuing to search for hidden escape tunnels in the Crusader castle at Kerak.
Arrive in to Amman Airport and transfer to your hotel.
Meet your guide and the group this morning for a guided sightseeing tour of the capital, visit the downtown area including the Roman Theatre, Citadel, Archaeology and Folklore Museums and one of the art galleries. The afternoon is free at leisure for you to explore further before meeting up for a group dinner. (B,D)
This morning your day trip takes you to the lowest point on earth – the Dead Sea. Experience floating in the saline waters before you head for Pella in the Jordan Valley, visit the tell and the Byzantine churches before moving on to Umm Qais for a spectacular view of the Sea of Galilee, the Yarmouk River and the Golan Heights. Return to Amman in the late afternoon. (B)
In the late morning you will visit Jerash, the best preserved Roman city in the Middle East and visit its theatres, temples, churches and colonnaded streets. Continue on to Ajloun to tour the 12th century Saracen Castle built by one of Saladin’s lieutenants in the campaign against the Crusaders. (B)
Leaving Amman on the King’s Highway you will stop this morning in Madaba where you will see the oldest map of the Holy Land – a 6th century mosaic. Nearby is Mt Nebo, the alleged burial site of Moses overlooking the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley. Continue on through the magnificent scenery of Wadi Mujib to Kerak and visit the Crusader Castle before reaching Petra. (B)
A full day to visit the many sites of Petra, this city that was carved into the rose-red Sharah mountains by the Nabateans and lost to Civilization until re-discovered by the Swiss Burkhardt. Walk through the Siq, a narrow and winding fissure between the cliffs, to reach the Treasury, the Roman Theatre, the Courts, Qasr Bint Pharaoun, Temple of the Winged Lion and other monuments. After a stop for lunch you may wish to climb the 900 steps to the Monastery to see this impressive carved building and the views out across the valleys. (B)
Visit the Wadi Rum Desert and enjoy a short ride in a 4x4 vehicle to see the awesome moonlike landscape. If time permits take a short visit to Aqaba, Jordan’s only sea port city before returning to Amman on the Desert Highway. Overnight in Amman. (B)
Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)
