Based in a cosy wooden chalet atop the snowy Ounasvaara Fell overlooking Lapland’s capital, Rovaniemi, this short winter break is perfect for a short family holiday.
Search for the northern lights on a sleigh pulled by reindeer, dash through the snow-covered Lappish wilderness on a husky safari, try snowmobiling and visit a Reindeer farm.
Today learn about the traditional husky lifestyle and how these beautiful animals are cared for at a local husky farm before enjoying an exhilarating husky safari through the Arctic wilderness. In the afternoon relax at leisure. In the evening, transfer to a local reindeer farm, and once you’re sitting comfortably in the reindeer sleigh head off through the snowy forests for a hour’s ride. A hot drink and a bun is served around the campfire. Hopefully the Northern Lights will make an appearance in the night sky above you. (B)
No visit to Finnish Lapland is complete without a visit to see Santa Claus and his trusted helpers. Head to beautifully-presented Santa Claus Village to meet Father Christmas, visit Santa’s Official Post Office, enjoy some festive shopping and why not stop here for lunch. In the afternoon, explore the landscape on an exhilarating snowmobile ride. Travel to a reindeer farm to meet a local reindeer herd. Here settle back into a sleigh and experience a short reindeer sleigh ride, and take part in a “Crossing of the Arctic Circle” ceremony before snowmobiling back to Rovaniemi. This excursion is around 6.5 hours.
Why not speak to a Finland Specialist about visiting the Arctic Snow Village, just 26 kilometres from Rovaniemi. Here you can tour ice-sculpted rooms at the Snow Hotel, enjoy a drink in the Ice Bar and watch the northern lights from an outdoor Jacuzzi by booking a hot tub and sauna experience. Choose to eat a three-course meal in one of two restaurants: the cosy Log Restaurant or the extraordinary Ice Restaurant. (B)
