Northern Lights at the Hotel Wilderness Nellim

In the far north of Finnish Lapland, on the edge of beautiful Lake Inari, Nellim Wilderness Hotel is a remote retreat where snow-covered forests and frozen lakes provide the backdrop to the day’s adventures and visitors enjoy a serene setting in which to recharge.
Nellim offers the perfect location for northern lights viewings and winter adventures such as snowmobiling, reindeer and husky sleigh rides, snowshoeing and other Arctic adventures. Choose from wilderness rooms located in three different buildings on the hotel’s premises. Or choose a cosy log suite or cabin—we can also offer an upgrade to an Aurora Bubble or Aurora Kota.
All excursions on days 2-3 are included in this holiday, but the order in which you enjoy them may vary depending on timing and snow conditions when you arrive in Finland.
Tour Itinerary
Arrive at the airport and transfer to the Wilderness Hotel Nellim. Receive thermal clothing before enjoying dinner. (D)
Husky safari: meet the musher and learn how to drive a husky sledge around the beautiful frozen Lake Inari. Learn how to handle the sled before you head out for the husky safari, where the huskies will pull your sled through the beautiful winter scenery, passing through frozen Lake Inari. The dogs’ excitement is infectious and as the animals fall silent on the trail, you will realise that this is the only way to see Lapland.
Aurora workshop: Join an Aurora Workshop and learn more about the science behind this fascinating natural phenomenon from an Aurora expert guide. You can also take your own camera with you and get the settings optimised for photographing Northern Lights.
Aurora snowshoeing: this evening venture out into the darkness on snowshoes in search of the Northern Lights. Walk through snowy landscapes and spot the elusive northern lights. On this trek, head to Nellim forests and hills and experience the amazing atmosphere of old forests on this relaxing snowshoe walk to the aurora camp spot. Walking in the dark forests accompanied by the light of the moon and dance of the northern lights is unforgettable. Warm up by the campfire and wait for the aurora to show up, while warm drinks are prepared on the open fire. (B,L,D)
Snowmobile adventure: embark on a snowmobiling trip into the Arctic wilderness. This is great fun in Nellim as there is unlimited wilderness, lots of tracks and beautiful scenery all around. After a snowmobiling lesson and safety instructions, head off on a snowmobiling adventure. During the day enjoy lunch by the open fire and warm drinks to keep you warm.
Aurora camp: this excursion takes you Aurora hunting on the stunning Lake Inari. Sit comfortably in a sledge that is pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Enjoy the northern sky all the way to the camp place. While observing the night sky, warm up around a blazing campfire sipping hot drinks and enjoying each other’s company. The atmosphere by the campfire is an experience in itself. Lake Inari is one of the best places in the world for aurora viewing since there is no light pollution at all. (B,L,D)
