Slovenia Family Adventure

Fly to Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Head out to explore the city on foot to soak up the capital's vibrant alfresco dining scene. 

Collect your rental car this morning and make your way to the Alpine region of Slovenia and the sensational Lake Bohinj. En-route, stop off in Bled to discover its lakeside delights. Take a pletna boat out to the island in the middle of the lake to ring the wishing bell or hike through the nearby Vintgar Gorge to a stunning viewpoint above the lake. Continue on to Bohinj to spend the next few nights. (B)

Today you will take a short bus ride (or drive 10min) to the best bike shop in the Bohinj region. Meet your fabulous guide, get your bikes and explore the region on 2 wheels. You will bike the side roads of the Bohinj valley, learn about local stories and customs and uncover some local secrets. This guided tour takes about 4 hours and will be adapted to your wishes. In the afternoon you will have time to explore the lake, have a swim, go for a hike or rent kayaks or stand-up-paddle boards. (B)

Set off for the Triglav National Park (20min drive), where you begin your journey through the dense and magical spruce forest of the Pokljuka plateau. The path will take you to several viewpoints where you will enjoy impressive views of the highest Slovenian mountains and the Bohinj Valley. Why not stop to try the products of the local shepherds and have lunch in a typical mountain hut sampling some of Slovenia's most traditional dishes. There are lots of options for hikes of varying difficulties and many moments for the perfect photo opportunity in the Triglav National Park. (B)

Get back on the road this morning and head to the verdant Soča Valley. Cross Slovenia's highest pass, the Vrsic Pass, in the central Julian Alps. Make your way up and over the pass, stopping along the way for a short walk including a stroll into the region's history on paths built by Russian prisoners of war. After you've stretched your legs, have a coffee with a scenic mountain view or a typical alpine lunch in a cosy hut. In the afternoon, reach the Soča Valley to explore its hidden spots, including WWI forts, river gorges, and the mountain town of Bovec, where you can relax in a microbrewery when you settle in for the night. Today, enjoy a half-day family rafting experience on the emerald Soča River - one of the most loved activities in the country! Your rafting guide will meet you at your hotel to transport you to the starting point from where you will embark on an 8 km long route. Change into your wetsuits and leave dry clothes in the vans that will wait for you at the finish point. Before starting, the guides will go through safety guidelines and instructions. Once on board the raft, you will help your guide to paddle through the crystal clear water and over the flowing rapids of the Soča river. Several stops will be made for those who would like to jump in and swim in the clear (but chilly) waters.  Apart from the ability to swim, no prior experience is necessary. Return to Bovec and spend the afternoon at leisure, choosing from the many options on offer in this area. (B)

Today's included activity is an exhilarating zipline adventure in the Soča valley, taking you high up on to the slopes of the Kanin mountain range above Bovec. You'll slide down a series of ziplines and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Soča Valley- a fun and adrenaline filled activity for the whole family (Minimum age for this activity is 8). Take the afternoon for a slow panoramic gondola ride to Mount Kanin, visit the historic town of Kobarid, explore the Virje waterfall or take the most scenic drive to the highest mountain road in Slovenia – the Mangart saddle road. Alternatively, opt to do more adrenaline filled activities such as canyoning or kayaking. (B)

Make the 2 hour drive back to Ljubljana Airport today to drop off the car and catch return flight. Alternatively, extend your trip to incorporate some relaxation time on the coast. (B)
