Gjaargardur Guesthouse Gjogv

Surrounded by mountains in the tiny village of Gjógv on Eysturoy, Gjáargarður offers the chance to experience life in one of the Faroe Islands' most memorable settlements. The traditional turf-roofed guesthouse has a warm, informal atmosphere and wonderful access to the surrounding landscape. With breakfast and dinner available, it is an excellent base for walkers and for anyone wanting to spend more than just a few hours in Gjógv.

Room Options

Gjáargarður has 23 rooms, comprising 11 Standard Rooms in the original main building and 12 larger Superior Rooms in a newer low-rise building alongside. Standard Rooms are simple and homely, while the 24m² Superior Rooms have their own entrance, additional living space, TV and kettle. Single, double, twin and family options are available, all with private bathrooms.

Dining

Breakfast is included and served each morning at the guesthouse. In the evening, Gjóbiti Restaurant serves a selection of dishes featuring fish, meat and vegetables, while packed lunches can be ordered in advance for days spent walking or exploring.

Down beside Gjógv's famous natural gorge, Gjáarkaffi is a lovely place to stop for coffee, Faroese waffles and refreshments while enjoying the view.

Location & Experiences

Gjógv is one of the Faroes' most beautifully situated villages, clustered around a narrow natural gorge that once served as its harbour. Staying overnight allows you to experience the village after many day visitors have left and makes Gjáargarður an excellent base for exploring northern Eysturoy.

Walk above the village for wonderful coastal views or drive towards Slættaratindur, the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, and neighbouring Eiði. During summer, the guesthouse also hosts selected cultural evenings combining Faroese food, music and traditional chain dancing.

Why Regent Loves It...

This is one of those places where staying overnight really adds to the experience. Gjógv is beautiful at any time, but spending a night or two here gives you time to enjoy the village when it is quieter, walk in the surrounding mountains and experience a very different side of the Faroes from Tórshavn.
