The village of Gjógv sits at the top of Eysturoy and derives its names from the gorge which cuts its way into the cliff side, which for many years served as the village's harbour and in the summer months now hosts concerts from local musicians, taking advantage of the natural acoustics.
Several walking trails lead from the centre of the village, and at the right time of year you will come across nesting puffins. Between June and August the village's guesthouse hosts a cultural evening with a sumptuous buffet of Faroese cuisine, local music and a demonstration of the traditional chain dance (guests are encouraged to join in).
