This morning enjoy a private sightseeing tour of Vilnius with your local guide (3 hours). Learn about the history of University of Vilnius founded in 1579 and enjoy a walk in Cathedral Square. End your tour at Hales Market, originally called the Horse Market in the 15th century, it later became the Grain Market in the 16th century, and in 1906, a new market building designed by Vilnius architect Vaclovas Michnevičius was erected at the intersection of Pylimo and Bazilijonų Streets, eventually adopting the name Halės Market in 1914. This market is the oldest continuously operating marketplace in Vilnius.
The afternoon is left free for you to relax or explore further on your own. In the evening enjoy a very special tasting menu at Ertlio Namas – a unique restaurant where refined historical Lithuanian cuisine gracefully meets modern culture and technology. Today is left free for you to explore Vilnuis by yourself. Perhaps stop off for a sweet adventure at AJ Šokoladas shop in the old town. Their factory is located in Trakai, close to Lithuania's iconic castle, and almost every morning fresh chocolate from here is delivered to their shops in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Mažeikiai. Or perhaps book an excursion to see Trakai - Lithuania's famous island castle. While exploring this restored picturesque castle, you can also indulge in a delightful culinary experience by tasting the local speciality, "Kibinai". These savoury pastries are a traditional dish of the Karaim community, who have been part of Trakai's heritage for centuries. Late afternoon head over to Craft&Draft Brew Pub for a guided tour of Vilnius' historic brewery and sample five traditional Lithuanian beers (200ml each). A professional beer sommelier will introduce each beer and share insights into local brewing traditions. The experience includes Lithuanian snacks like garlic bread and a meat and cheese platter. (B)
Today meet at Džiugas House for a cheese and wine tasting experience. Enjoy 36, 24, 18 and 12 months matured hard cheese DŽIUGAS® accompanied by honey, various nuts, grapes, pears, jams, branded sweets, spreads, crackers, and paired with delicious wine. For dinner we can recommend a few great restaurants serving some of Lithuania's most famous specialities Depending on the season perhaps enjoy Saltibarsciai - a creamy cold beet soup and the ubiquitous Cepelinai - stuffed potato dumplings. Then maybe after dinner and to walk off the Cepelinai head up to Gediminas Castle, set atop a small hill in the centre of the city. All that remains of the castle today is a tower that was part of a large fortification built to defend Vilnius, it offers great views of the city below. (B)
