Depart from London on your flight to Amman arriving in late this evening. You will be met and transferred to your hotel and check in for two nights.
This morning you will visit downtown Amman to see the historical sites such as the Citadel home to the Roman Temple of Hercules and a small archaeological museum showcasing some of Jordan's most important finds. At the foot of Citadel Hill is the Roman Theatre built in the 2nd century alongside the forum, once the city's marketplace. This afternoon visit the Royal Automobile Museum before heading for Rainbow Street to enjoy the cafes and street food on offer on this busy pedestrian street. (B)
Heading north this morning takes you to the Roman city of Jerash, one of the best preserved in the Middle East with plenty to explore from theatres and temples to the hippodrome. Continue on to Ajloun Castle, built in the nearby hills by an Arab general during the Crusades. Return to Amman in the late afternoon. (B)
Your journey today takes you to Jordan's best known site and a highlight of any trip, the Nabatean city of Petra. On your drive south you will stop at Shobak Castle, the first of the Crusader castles built in Jordan. Your journey then takes you to Little Petra, close to the main city and home to a small siq with carved facades. From here it is possible to walk to Petra arriving to the site at the Monastery and continuing your journey through the city. (B)
A full day in Petra today, begins in the Siq with your guide from where you walk to the Treasury and through the city exploring the various tombs, palaces, temples and theatres. In the afternoon you may like to climb to the High Place of Sacrifice and explore some of the alternate paths down. This evening there is the opportunity to learn a little of Jordan cuisine at Petra Kitchen. (B)
Today you head off-road and into the desert to explore the magnificent dunes and rocky outcrops of Wadi Rum, a vast desert not just home to natural wonders but also the historical story of the Arab Revolt and TE Lawrence. Switching to a 4WD drive your Bedouin guide will take you to dunes and small canyons, there will be the opportunity for some walking and even a camel ride if you like before arriving at your desert camp for a night under the stars.
