Explore the Faroe Islands at leisure on this short break based in Torshavn. Spend time exploring the narrow streets of the capital’s old town with its turf-roofed houses, visit the Northern Islands, discover Kirkjubour village and Sandoy island and hunt for the breeding areas of guillemots and razorbills at the towering Vestmanna bird cliffs.
Fly to Vagar where you will be met and transferred to Torshavn, the capital of these beautiful and remote islands. Check-in to the 62°N Hotel for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.
After a hearty breakfast, set off on a full-day tour to the Northern Islands. Drive through Streymoy and Eysturoy to Leirvík and from there through the sub-sea tunnel to Klaksvík. Experience wonderful views to the islands Fugloy, Svínoy, Borðoy and Kunoy and see the King Christian's church in Klaksvík. In the evening, perhaps enjoy a tapas dinner at the Katrina Christiansen, a restaurant in a charming, old and historical grocery shop with an informal and cost atmosphere. (B, L)
Travel by bus over the mountain road to Vestmanna where you will board your boat and head out to sea and along the precipitous bird cliffs, home to nesting puffins, guillemots and kitiwakes, whilst out at sea look out for diving gannets. The boat will explore caves that delve into the cliff faces. After returning to the harbour enjoy some lunch, before driving to the ancient Viking settlements at Kvivik before returning to Torshavn. Today embark on a full-day tour to the historic village of Kirkjubour, home to the ruined Magnus Cathedral and the Paturrson family, who have been farming here for 17 generations. Take a short ferry ride and continue to the saga Island of Sandoy. (B.L)
