Whales are one of Vesterålen’s biggest draws. Nowhere else along the Norwegian coast is the continental shelf as close to the mainland as in Vesterålen and whale watching trips here have an amazing 95% success rate. Early this afternoon, visit the Whale Watching Centre to learn about these marine mammals before departing by boat on a guided whale watching safari.  (B)

Andøya Island

Drive the impressive Andøya National Scenic Route that runs between Bjørnskinn and Andenes. The road hugs the coastline where people have put down roots between the vast ocean and the jagged peaks. Take breaks to drink in the breathtaking views or to stroll along one of the many idyllic beaches along the way. In late summer, try the cloudberries that grow on the moorland or visit the Bleiksøya bird cliffs which, in early summer, is home to both sea eagles and over 40,000 puffins! (B)

Reine Rorbuer
The famously photogenic village of Reine, Lofoten

Today, discover the Lofoten islands, driving the Lofoten National Scenic Route from Leknes down to Å, where we highly recommend a visit to the Stockfish Museum. Experience a journey amid breathtaking and stark natural surroundings. The combination of the untamed ocean, craggy mountains, white sand beaches and tiny fishing villages never fail to enchant visitors. Spend a secind night in  the fishing village of Reine, easily one of the most iconically photographed villages in the whole archipelago. (B)
