Today is free to explore Oslo or to book an optional activity. Norway's capital is an energetic and modern hub which is easily explored by foot. Take a stroll along the city's harbour front and past the iconic Opera House or explore one of the many museums or art galleries on offer in the city (the National Museum and the Fram Museum are both excellent options). Vigeland Park, filled with over 200 sculptures, is also well worth a visit on a sunny day. (B)
Board the train in Oslo for the start of this epic rail journey. The Dovre Railway takes you through some of Norway's best national parks, mountains and scenic attractions. The train passes through the well-known Gudbransdalen valley, as well as crossing the beautiful Dovrefjell mountain plateau, which is home to 300 wild musk ox. Explore Norway's third largest city and former capital. Perhaps pop into one of the many museums or galleries, or visit the impressive Nidaros Cathedral which is the largest Medieval building in Scandinavia. Other sites of note are the Archbishop’s Palace which houses the crown jewels and Stiftsgarden, the oldest wooden palace in Scandinavia. Sail through the wide Trondheim fjord that is bounded by rolling farmland on both sides and sail on the open sea. You can disembark in Kristiansund and be driven along the Atlantic Ocean Road, which has been called the world's most beautiful drive. Take the train from Bergen to Voss, where you change to continue your journey by coach to Gudvangen. Board a boat and cruise through the Nærøyfjord UNESCO landscapes to Flåm. Surrounded by towering mountains up to 1,700m high, Nærøyfjord is the narrowest and best known of the many arms of the Sognefjord, and perhaps the most outstanding natural attraction in Norway. Board the world famous Flamsbana railway to the mountain station of Myrdal. Voted one of the most spectacular railways in the world. Experience dramatic waterfalls, rivers, valleys and mountains whilst appreciating this technical masterpiece. On arrival in Myrdal, change trains to take the Bergen Line to Oslo.
