Jakar is the main town of the Bumthang Valleys area makes for a good base from which to explore this region of Bhutan. The drive through the Chhu Valley to get to Jakar offers some fantastic scenery of rural Bhutanese villages and roadside goembas.
A stay here should include a visit to the Jakar Dzong, the ‘castle of the white bird’, which overlooks the length of the Chokhor Valley as well as Jampey Lakhang, the oldest in Bhutan, and Tamshing Goemba.
