Hakone offers a serene escape from Tokyo and this, combined with it being home to iconic Mt Fuji, means locals and visitors tend to flock to this pretty national park. The central lake of Ashino-ko tends to be the focal point for many visitors but there is much more to discover in the region. Hike to small traditional villages, take a boat across the lake, wander the outdoor sculpture park and Picasso gallery or enjoy a soak in one of the many therapeutic hot spring baths.
