Kawazu Holidays

Kawazu Holidays

Located on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, Kawazu is best known for its natural scenery, hot springs and the early-blooming Kawazu-zakura cherry trees, which flower from February to early March, several weeks before most of Japan. The town offers a quieter alternative to Japan's larger tourist destinations, combining coastal landscapes with forested mountains and rivers. Visitors can walk beneath around 850 cherry trees along the Kawazu River during spring, explore the impressive Kawazu Seven Waterfalls, relax in natural hot springs, or visit local temples and shrines. The nearby coastline also provides scenic viewpoints, beaches and opportunities to experience fresh seafood from the region.

Kawazu is well suited to travellers looking for a slower pace, whether that means hiking through lush valleys, enjoying a traditional ryokan stay, or exploring the countryside by car or bicycle. Nature lovers can follow walking trails through waterfalls and forests, while photographers will appreciate the changing landscapes throughout the year, from cherry blossoms in spring to colourful autumn foliage. Families can enjoy easy walks, parks and nearby beaches, while those seeking relaxation can unwind in one of the town's many onsen after a day of sightseeing. Kawazu also makes an excellent base for exploring other parts of the Izu Peninsula, including Shimoda, the Jogasaki Coast and Mount Omuro.
