Experience the Faroe Islands in winter on this five-day short break based in Tórshavn. Perfect for non-drivers, this itinerary includes airport transfers, guided sightseeing and plenty of free time to enjoy one of the world's smallest capitals at your own pace. Set around a colourful harbour and surrounded by dramatic mountains, Tórshavn may be small, but it offers plenty to discover. Join a guided city tour through the historic district of Tinganes, visit the Nordic House and spend time exploring the city's independent boutiques, cosy cafés and excellent restaurants.

Beyond the capital, guided excursions showcase some of the Faroe Islands' most spectacular winter scenery. Exploring Vágar Island, home to the villages of Bøur and Gásadalur and the dramatic Múlafossur waterfall, and visit the striking settlements of Saksun, Tjørnuvík and Gjógv. DAY 1
FLY TO THE FAROE ISLANDS
Vágar

Fly to Vágar Airport and transfer through the dramatic Faroese landscape to Tórshavn for a four-night stay. On arrival, settle into your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Take a stroll around the colourful harbour, browse independent boutiques or visit the historic Tinganes district, home to one of the world’s oldest parliamentary meeting places. In the evening, choose from a growing number of excellent restaurants serving fresh seafood and modern Nordic cuisine.

DAY 2
TORSHAVN GUIDED CITY TOUR
Turf-roofed buildings of Tinganes

This morning, enjoy a guided walking tour of Tórshavn and learn more about one of the world’s smallest capitals. Explore the charming old town, admire the traditional turf-roofed buildings of Tinganes and visit the harbour area. Your guide will introduce you to Faroese history, culture and daily life before the afternoon is left free to explore independently. Perhaps visit the National Museum, the National Gallery or the Nordic House, browse local design stores or simply relax in one of the city’s cosy cafés. (B)

DAY 3
GUIDED ISLAND EXCURSION
Vágar Island

Today, head beyond the capital on a full-day guided excursion exploring three of the Faroe Islands. Travel across Streymoy, Eysturoy and Vágar, discovering some of the archipelago’s most spectacular scenery and picturesque villages. Visit Gjógv, known for its natural sea-filled gorge, and the remote villages of Saksun and Tjørnuvík, stopping at Fossá, the Faroe Islands’ highest waterfall. Continue to Vágar to explore the charming village of Bøur, with views towards Tindhólmur and the dramatic Drangarnir sea arch, before visiting Gásadalur, where the famous Múlafossur waterfall tumbles over the cliffs towards the Atlantic. Spend the day at leisure in Tórshavn. You may wish to join an optional guided excursion, browse the city's independent design shops, visit Gurun & Gurun for traditional knitwear or unwind at Ress Spa. FLY TO THE UK
Tórshavn

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning at leisure in Tórshavn. Pick up any last-minute souvenirs, take one final walk along the harbour or simply relax before your transfer back to Vágar Airport for your flight to the UK. (B)

Price based on two people sharing a twin/double room in March 2027. Supplements may apply for peak-season dates or flight fare variations. International flights are based on the direct Gatwick–Vágar service operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays or Edinburgh on Mondays and Thursdays, with regional departures via Copenhagen also available (supplements may apply). 

A sustainability fee of approximately DKK 20 per person per night (age 16+) applies in the Faroe Islands and is typically payable locally. On this holiday to the Faroes it would be 80 DKK which is approx. £9.29 per person. Exchange rate and local taxes may change before you pay at the hotel.
