Javri Lodge: a taste of Nordic luxury in Finnish Lapland

Even though Lapland is not usually associated to the concept of luxury, in my most recent trip to Lapland I had to reconsider this statement as I had the chance to visit the Javri Lodge. 

Once a winter retreat for Finland’s president, Javri Lodge is now a boutique hotel where you can experience an intimate stay and taste delicious home-cooked, Nordic meals. The property is also conveniently located on the outskirts of Saariselka - at only 25 Km from Ivalo airport -  which makes it easily reachable.

Javri Lodge is therefore a property which I would warmly suggest if you are looking to spend your days indulging in a luxury lodge and still wanting to embark on excursions to experience the best of the Lappish wilderness.

What makes the Javri Lodge so special

During my visit at Javri Lodge I was amazed by their Skyview Suites which feature a floor to ceiling window view over the surrounding nature. Their décor is hugely stylish and the views out over the wilderness is breathtaking; besides, at night you might even keep an eye out for the Northern lights from the comfort of your bed!

A well-furnished Wellness area will be ready to welcome you to unwind after a full day of excursions. There you can follow an activity with the warmth of an authentic Finnish sauna, enjoy relaxing massage treatments or even swim in a big indoor swimming pool, which stays open all the time for clients!

Javri Lodge sits in the middle of the wilderness and activities, which are all organised on a private basis, are literally on your doorstep. One of my favourite is certainly the reindeer safari which gives you the chance to sit in a traditional Lappish reindeer sleigh and enjoy a tranquil tour through the pristine forest. After the ride, you can then listen to stories about the reindeer in the warmth of the reindeer farm or 'Kota', a Lappish teepee, while enjoying a hot drink by the fireplace.

You can also explore the surrounding snowy wilderness on a husky safari, snomobiling or snowshoeing searching for the Northern Lights! The possibilities are endless...
