So inaccessible that only a handful of Westerners visit it each year by charter flight, the coastal town of Chilbo is a particularly special and memorable part of any North Korea tour itinerary. Chilbo is one of the country’s prettiest and most relaxed spots, with spectacular mountains and some great beaches perfect for a sunny picnic or relaxing swim. The town itself is rather unassuming but this is a great place to kick back in and enjoy the feeling of being in one of the remotest areas in one of the most obscure countries in the world. On a tour here, it is also possible to stay the night in a family-run guesthouse, providing an extremely rare glimpse into a typical North Korean home.
