Usa Jingu Shrine Walk

Visit Usa Jingu, the principal shrine dedicated to the kami Hachiman — the divine protector and tutelary god of warriors — and the head of more than 40,000 Hachiman shrines across Japan. Founded in the early 8th century, this shrine sits within forested grounds and includes the Upper Jogu and Lower Gegu complexes, with the main hall recognised as a National Treasure. Usa Jingu’s distinctive architecture and centuries of worship reflect the development of Shinto belief and its role in Japan’s cultural history. You can explore the site as a self‑guided walk, taking in torii gates, sacred bridges and garden ponds at your own pace, or choose a guided walk to learn about the shrine’s origins, rituals, symbolism and seasonal highlights, adding depth to your visit.
