Dog Sledding in Bolterdalen

Experience dog sledding through Bolterdalen’s exciting and varied landscape with your own dog team! Dog sledding is an amazing and authentic way to experience the Arctic and this excursion gives you an excellent introduction to mushing techniques and the joys of working with Polar dogs. After helping to harness the dogs, head off, following the riverbed as it meanders back and forth into Bolterdalen, surrounded by stunning mountains. Reindeer are often seen on this tour, and sometimes Svalbard grouse and Polar foxes as well. Several photo stops are made en route. At the foot of the Scott Turner Glacier we will turn the sleds and set a course for the dog yard. Here, the dogs rush back keen to enjoy a bowl of food and a well earned rest. In the dog yard, help unharness the dogs, before the guide shows the newest litter of puppies for cuteness overload. Enjoy a hot drink and biscuits in a heated log cabin before returning to Svalbard.
Duration: 4 hours
Season: 10 February - 25 May
Please note that 2 guests share a sled and take turns to mush so a reasonable level of fitness is required as you stand at the back of the sled on the 2 runners holding on.
