Lotus Lantern International Meditation Center offers a unique introduction to Korean Buddhist culture through a global perspective, where monks and laypeople from different countries live and practice Seon meditation together in harmony. Located on Ganghwado Island, surrounded by forests, mountains, and rural scenery, the temple provides a serene environment dedicated to independent cultivation and realisation of the true self.
Established in 1997 by Master Won Myoung Sunim, a disciple of Zen Master Seong Cheol Sunim of the Jogye Order, the centre was founded to share Korean Buddhism worldwide. After missionary work in Seoul beginning in 1987, the temple moved to its present mountain location for deeper practice. Programs include templestay experiences, intensive retreats, freestyle stays, and a two-day, one-night meditation program guided in English and Korean. Silence is observed, and retreat practice centres on sitting meditation. The lotus symbolises purity arising from suffering, reflecting the path to discovering one’s original mind.
