Start at Camp Ripan by getting into warm clothes and then drive out into the low mountain areas close by, over frozen lakes, and in to the wild forest land covered in deep, white snow. The journey takes you up Mt. Ednavaara, beautifully situated an hour from Camp Ripan boasting fantastic views. After a light snack, follow the road towards the wetlands to search for moose. After a full day outdoors, head to the hotel's Aurora Spa for a relaxing sauna bath with beneficial spa products. (B)
Enjoy a free day to relax or perhaps book an optional excursion, before heading out in the evening for the northern lights dog sled hunt. Escape the city lights and be immersed in the dark wintry nights of Lapland, pulled on a sled by a team of excitable, friendly Alaskan Huskies. The trail winds its way through pine and birch forest down to the famous Torne River where the night sky stretches out. At the halfway point, there is a stop at a traditional sami-style lavvu (tipi), for a warming drink and homemade cake. (B)
