This unique winter adventure blends alpine thrills with cultural discovery in one of Central Asia’s most dynamic destinations. Based in and around Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city, the journey takes in a lively indoor market, Soviet-era architecture, and the crisp mountain air of the Trans-Ili Alatau.
Explore the city’s cultural highlights before heading to the dramatic Charyn Canyon, Kazakhstan’s answer to the Grand Canyon, where wind-carved rock formations rise from the wild steppe on a full-day excursion.
Take the cable car up to the slopes of Shymbulak, Central Asia’s premier ski resort. Nestled in the Tien Shan Mountains and offering its best conditions between January and March, the resort caters to all levels - from beginners to seasoned skiers eager to tackle steep, FIS-certified black runs. Full-day ski passes and equipment are included, with options for night skiing and lessons for those who want to sharpen their skills.
This is a well-balanced itinerary for travellers seeking exhilarating snow sports, cultural immersion, and spectacular natural scenery - all without straying far from a vibrant city base.
