Colours of Norway: Cities and Fjords Group Tour

Upon arrival into Oslo Airport, take the express train into the city centre to check into the hotel. The remainder of the day is free to explore Norway's capital. Just before dinner, meet a guide at 18:00 hrs in the hotel lobby and be introduced to fellow travellers and a welcome drink (D)

After breakfast depart from Oslo, driving via Hønefoss along the Halling valley to the resort town of Gol. After lunch, cross the Hardanger mountain plateau to Fossli, stopping to visit the thundering Vøringsfoss waterfall with a vertical drop of 180m. Descend the amazing Måbødal canyon to the idyllic Hardanger fjord. Cross the bridge, followed by a drive along the Ulvik fjord, a branch of the Hardanger fjord, to the picturesque village of Ulvik. After breakfast, start the scenic tour along the beautiful Hardangerfjord, famous for its many fruit orchards, via the towns of Øystese and Norheimsund, arriving in Bergen at lunchtime. In the afternoon there is a 2-hour sightseeing tour of Bergen with a local guide, including a visit to the popular fish and flower market, the famous Bryggen Harbour with its gabled pack houses, and the old hanseatic quarter. After the city tour there is a return ride on the Bergen Funicular to the top of Mt. Floien.(B,D)

After breakfast, drive via Voss to Flåm and board the train for an excursion on the spectacular Flåm Railway, one of the most beautiful and steepest in the world. Board an eco-friendly ship for a fjord cruise on the narrow and spectacular Nærøyfjord from Flåm to Gudvangen. This area has been judged one of the most beautiful fjord landscapes in the world and is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Continue by coach through the Stalheim canyon and Nærøy Valley, across the Vika Mountains to Vangsnes for the short ferry crossing to the beautiful resort of Balestrand. (B,D)

Spend a free day in Balestrand to savour the outstanding beauty and nature of the fjords. Perhaps spend the morning relaxing on the hotel terrace, taking in the fresh mountain air and enjoying the stunning views. We recommend a visit to the local aquarium and art gallery, or renting a bike or rowing boat from the hotel. A walking tour of the village can be arranged by the hotel. (B,D)

After breakfast, depart from the hotel by ferry from Dragsvik to Hella. Next, take a scenic tour along the northern side of the Sogn Fjord and further north to Fjærland, passing under the Jostedal Glacier, the largest in Europe. Descend to the beautiful Nord Fjord, making a detour at Olden to visit the world-famous Briksdal Glacier. In the afternoon, journey up to the glacier in open Trolls cars, and stand about 700m away from the glacier. Continue by coach to Hellesylt, for a cruise to Geiranger. This fjord is one of the most famous in the world, surrounded by deep blue water and green valleys, where you will experience magnificent waterfalls such as the Seven Sisters and the Bridal Veil (B,L,D)

After breakfast, discover the roads that twist and turn through one hairpin bend after another to Geiranger skywalk, to experience panoramic views of one of the most scenically outstanding fjord areas. Continue via Lake Vaga before descending the magnificent Gudbrands Valley to the popular town of Lillehammer. Drive alongside Lake Mjosa, Norway's largest lake, and arrive in Oslo, situated at the head of the Oslo Fjord. (B,D)
