Abisko Village sits directly along the Arctic Circle Railway and is the gateway to Abisko National Park - 46 square miles of spectacular scenery which includes the beautiful Lake Torneträsk and the Lapporten hills known as the Gate of Lapland.
Abisko occupies a prime location directly underneath the Aurora Oval and also has one of the lowest rainfall climates in the entire Nordic region. Both of these factors contribute to fantastic aurora borealis conditions, contributing to Abisko holding the title of being one of the world's top destinations for witnessing the northern lights dance across the sky.
The Aurora Sky Station, located approximately 900 meters up the mountain, far from the light pollution of the village is famous for its northern lights evenings. During the summer months, Abisko's dry climate makes it ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and the park boasts incredible hiking opportunities under the midnight sun, including the King's Trail which starts in Abisko and winds its way south 270 miles to Hemavan.
