The small community of Eidfjord is situated in an area of spectacular beauty alongside the Hardangerfjord, surrounded by towering mountains and cascading waterfalls.
There are 350 Viking burial mounds which can be found in the area that date from AD 400 to 1000. A 90 minute walking trail that takes hikers past the most accessible of the mounds. Eidfjord is also the gateway to the stunning Hardangervidda Plateau - northern Europe's largest mountain plateau.
This is home to Norway's stunning Vøringfossen waterfall. This impressive waterfall plunges over the mountain edge, 145 m down into the canyon below and is best experienced from the viewing platform at the Fossli Hotel.
