Narsarsuaq is located on the banks of Erik’s Ford and the Qooroq glacier and is surrounded by green fertile mountains, crystal blue fjords, glaciers and Viking ruins. Its name means "the great plain" and it was founded in 1941, as an American airbase just 9 km away from the ice sheet. Here you can trek through the lush Flower Valley, inhabited by sheep farmers and sheep or go kayaking around the inlets at Narsaq – just watch out for the icebergs!
