Experience a unique three-day glamping adventure at The Namkhan, a luxury eco-resort situated seven kilometres from Luang Prabang along the Nam Khan River. Your accommodation will be in a private Explorer Tent, featuring its own bathroom with a shower and a veranda overlooking the river.
The itinerary includes various activities such as yoga and meditation classes, observing elephants in their natural habitat, and kayaking down the river. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to visit the farm to learn about farming and permaculture systems, and gather local produce for a cooking class with the local chef.
This itinerary seamlessly integrates into longer Laos or Indochina trips, as the eco-resort is conveniently close to Luang Prabang, making it an excellent addition to any travel plans.
Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, guests will be greeted by a guide and driver who will provide transport to the hotel for check-in. The Namkhan Project, founded in 2017 by Paul Bauer and Xisca Llabres, focuses on community engagement and sustainable farming practices. Through integrated farming and permaculture design, the project aims to produce a variety of trees, vegetables, herbs, and seeds in an ecological landscape. Upon check-in at the Nam Khan Ecolodge, guests can enjoy a Lao Traditional Massage along the river.
Start the day with a Yoga and Meditation Class facing the river. After breakfast, join a kayaking adventure down the Nam Khan River, followed by a visit to Ban Xieng Lek village for a briefing on elephant behaviour. Then, cross the river to meet the elephants, feed them, and observe their interaction with mahouts during bathtime. Trek through Lao gardens and the jungle-covered Huay Nok stream alongside the elephants, gaining insight and respect for these animals.
After lunch, explore the farm on a half-day tour to learn about sustainable farming systems. Collect seasonal vegetables and fruits for a cooking session with a local chef, followed by dessert tasting and relaxation by the Nam Khan River. (B,L,D)
Note: Please note that direct elephant bathing is not permitted at MandaLao to comply with World Animal Protection Guidelines.
On this day, we can customise the activities based on your flight departure or check-in at your next hotel. Options for the morning include a two-hour session learning bamboo weaving, or a two-hour experience immersing in the daily life of a local farmer, suitable for those interested in permaculture and farm animal care.
Check-out is at 11:30 am, followed by a transfer to the airport or your next destination with a local guide. (B)
