Tour Itinerary

DAY 1
FLY TO KANGERLUSSUAQ
Greenland

Fly with Air Greenland from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq. On arrival take a short walk to Hotel Kangerlussuaq and check in 2 nights. This afternoon perhaps book an optional tour of the town. A two-hour tour of Kangerlussuaq offers a glimpse into the settlement's rich history and its role in Greenland's past and present. Originating as a favoured Inuit residence over 4,000 years ago, it later became a strategic military base during World War II and the Cold War, hosting up to 1,400 personnel at its peak. Transitioning to civilian use, it now serves as Greenland's international airport, attracting adventurers drawn to its unique landscapes and wildlife. The tour explores landmarks such as the harbour, Kellyville (Sondrestrom Upper Atmospheric Research Facility), and former military facilities, providing insights into Greenlandic culture and life in the Arctic.

DAY 2
KANGERLUSSUAQ
Ice Cap - Greenland

Today head out on an excursion to Greenland's Ice Cap - The Icecap, Point 660. The Ice Cap in Greenland stretches 2,400km from north to south and is over 1,100km wide. The Ice Cap covers 80% of Greenland with the highest point being 3,238 metres above sea level and the thickest part of the sheet more than 3,500 metres. The easiest way to see the Greenland Ice Cap is from Kangerlussuaq, driving through arctic landscapes, past glacial lakes and wild tundra to reach this incredible vast ocean of undulating ice glinting blue and turquoise in the summer sun. In the evening perhaps head up to Roklubben for an evening meal by Lake Fergusson. (B)

DAY 4
NUUK
Nuuk - Greenland

Join a small group for a 2-hour walking tour of Nuuk, led by a knowledgeable local guide. Explore the colonial harbour area, where historic houses still stand as they did up to 300 years ago. Pass by remnants of old whale blubber processing equipment and iconic landmarks such as Hans Egede’s House and the striking sculpture of "The Mother of the Sea". Admire the statue of Hans Egede near the red wood Church of our Saviour, and experience the bustling atmosphere of the open-air market, where freshly caught fish, seal, and reindeer are sold. Continuing the stroll, pass by the Greenlandic Parliament before reaching the cultural hub of Katuaq. We recommend spending time visiting the National Museum discovering artifacts from all periods and civilizations in Greenland including the Qilakitsoq mummies. Indulge in Greenlandic tapas at Café Katuaq for lunch, sampling a variety of delicacies such as dried fish and meat. For those are not so adventure – we love their vegetarian chilli. (B)

DAY 5
NUUK
Fishing boat - Greenland

Today meet at the harbour for 5-hour boat trip. This Qoornoq Island Tour offers a unique three-in-one experience: a boat tour in the Nuuk Fjord, a visit to an old settlement, and a waterfall excursion. Qoornoq, also known as Bjørneøen (Bear Island), derives its name from its resemblance to a bear when viewed from above. Although the risk of encountering a polar bear is minimal these days, the island's history adds to its allure.

Disembark and explore this abandoned settlement of Qoornoq. Once a thriving community, this old settlement now serves as a summer retreat for locals from Nuuk. After a walk, return to the boat for a tour around the island. The captain will highlight the locations of the old Norse settlements, adding depth to your understanding of the island's history. Finally, conclude our tour with a visit to the iconic waterfall on the back of Mount Sermitsiaq, before returning to Nuuk.  (B)
